Early life and education

Shah Rukh Khan was born on 2 November 1965 in New Delhi to Meer Taj Mohammed Khan, an Indian independence activist from Peshawar, and Lateef Fatima. Khan grew up in the Rajendra Nagar neighborhood of Delhi, attending St. Columba's School where he excelled in sports and academics. He was awarded the school's highest accolade, the Sword of Honour.

After completing high school, Khan attended Hansraj College under the University of Delhi, graduating with a bachelor's degree in Economics. He also enrolled at Jamia Millia Islamia to pursue a Master's degree in Mass Communication, but left to pursue a career in acting.

Acting career

Shah Rukh Khan's acting career began in television in the late 1980s with the series Fauji (1989) and Circus (1989–1990). He made his Bollywood debut in the 1992 film Deewana, which was a commercial success.

In the following years, Khan established himself as one of the leading actors of Hindi cinema by starring in a series of successful films, including Darr (1993), Baazigar (1993), and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995). Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, directed by Aditya Chopra, remains one of the longest-running films in the history of Indian cinema.

1990s: Breakthrough and superstardom

During the 1990s, Khan rose to prominence with a string of box office hits. His roles in romantic films such as Dil Se (1998), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), and Dil To Pagal Hai (1997) earned him widespread acclaim. Khan became known as Bollywood's "King of Romance" for his portrayal of charismatic lovers, and his chemistry with co-stars such as Kajol and Madhuri Dixit became iconic.

2000s: Established icon

Khan's portrayal of an autistic man in My Name Is Khan was particularly well-received, earning him the Filmfare Award for Best Actor and international acclaim. His role as a hockey coach in Chak De! India was both a critical and commercial success, with the film being hailed as one of the best sports films in Indian cinema.

Despite facing some commercial setbacks in the late 2010s, Khan remained one of Bollywood's most bankable stars. He made a successful return with films like Chennai Express (2013), Happy New Year (2014), and Raees (2017).
