Virat Kohli (born 5 November 1988) is an Indian cricketer and former captain of the Indian national team. He is widely regarded as one of the best batsmen in the history of cricket and has broken numerous records in both limited-overs and Test cricket.
Early life and education
Virat Kohli was born in Delhi to Prem and Saroj Kohli. He has an older sister, Bhavna, and an older brother, Vikash. Kohli attended Saviour Convent in Delhi, where he began playing cricket at a young age. He joined the West Delhi Cricket Academy and honed his skills under the guidance of his coach, Rajkumar Sharma.
Domestic career
Kohli made his debut for Delhi in the 2006 Ranji Trophy and quickly made a name for himself as a talented young batsman. His performances in domestic cricket led to his selection for the Indian national team.
International career
One Day Internationals (ODIs)
Kohli made his ODI debut on 18 August 2008 against Sri Lanka. He established himself as a key player for India and was a part of the squad that won the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup. He is known for his aggressive batting style and remarkable consistency, holding records for the fastest centuries in ODIs and the most runs scored in a calendar year.
Test cricket
Kohli made his Test debut on 6 June 2011 against the West Indies. He quickly became a cornerstone of the Indian batting lineup and served as the team's captain from 2017 to 2021. Under his captaincy, India achieved significant success, including a historic Test series win in Australia.
T20 Internationals
Kohli made his T20 debut on 12 June 2009 against Zimbabwe. He has been instrumental in India's success in T20 cricket and is among the top run-scorers in the format.
Personal life
Virat Kohli married Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma in December 2017. The couple welcomed their first child, a daughter named Vamika, in January 2021. Kohli is known for his philanthropic efforts and fitness advocacy.
